OBC Certificate Application Form Delhi

Indian constitution secures some privileges for those who are socially held behind, such as those who come under the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, etc. Government of India has a classification of communities which are termed as Other Backward Class categories, the members of which will be entitled for certain privileges in preference to the other citizens of the country. To secure these privileges one must produce a certificate, which is commonly referred as OBC Certificate. Since the identity of the Indian citizen getting those privileges is very critical, the Government has instituted  proper procedures for one to obtain  the OBC certificate, which are simple to follow, however ensuring only those who belong to such communities get these certificates.

The Government of India has classified as many as 53 caste groups as those under Other Backward Classes and this list may be reviewed and notified from time to time, as the departments concerned identify similar castes. The one who wants to obtain an OBC certificate must approach the Sub Divisional Magistrate having jurisdiction over the area in which one resides and for that purpose the concerned member can visit the SDM’s office during Form issue hours, which are 9.30 ad to 1.00 pm. Besides obtaining the application form from the SDM’s office, an applicant of Delhi area can choose to download the form from the net from the website http://www.delhi.gov.in

The application must be carefully completed and submitted, for doing which a few attestations and certifications may be required. With the completed application one is required to submit the following documents also for obtaining the OBC Certificate:

Two passport size photographs of the applicant, of which one attested by a Gazetted Officer

A document such as Ration Card to testify the residential proof

An affidavit declaring the caste, also income with agricultural land, if any, owned by the applicant ( copy of which alone must be enclosed)

OBC Certificate issued to the father or any of the siblings, alternatively any blood relative( Copy only)

A letter from the Registered Society of the Caste, if any ( Copy only)

Birth Certificate, School Certificate or any other birth proof ( Copy only)

If a married woman, affidavit of father’s caste, income and OBC certificate of the father or brother, if possible ( Copy only)

When all these documents, along with the application, submitted at the SDM’s office, the application will be processed  and the OBC certificate will be issued in 21 days’ time. However, if the father’s or brother’s or relative’s OBC certificate is issued from some other state than Delhi, then it will take time for the verification process.

The verification process involves ascertaining the residential information, income status and going through the aspects of basic eligibility for one to  be included in OBC  category. The process also verifies if the applicant is already in possession of an OBC certificate issued elsewhere. The Government takes such a care to issue the certificate only to genuine persons belonging to OBC  classification, as this status and claim should not be misused under any circumstance.
